Uge 57 – Psychotic Breaks, pregnant women, no phone and a baptismal date!! Just a normal week in the life of a missionary….

Hej!!!

Well. This week, as stated above has been a bit nuts. Lets start with the fact that for some odd reason the Lord sees fit to place a bunch of children in charge of the harvesting and salvation of His children, His World. If that doesn’t tell you that He has got one wicked sense of humor, then I don’t know what will! Maybe this. Come to thursday. Well. That is the day that we had no phone. I’m telling you that should never ever ever ever happen. Never, ever, ever leave a couple of sister missionaries without a phone for an entire day. Bad Things happen! So, we went over with the elders to help this girl pack to move – she is pregnant and should not be doing half of anything on her own, so we were there. That was entertaining!! And then ran home, changed and went to get on the train to get to Ana Marie and Mins. Well, we had the time wrong in our heads, we were thinking an hour earlier than it really was. Well, we knew the elders were home having lunch, so we just went up there and used their phone. And as we were standing there we both had the very distinct impression, have the elders come. Ask them to come. But both of us then thought, well, that’s another 200 DKK, they don’t even really know them, there’s no point. Should’ve listened! So we get out there and find out that ana maries mom is in the hospital Down in the phillippines and is in critical condition. YIKES! So, we ask if she wants a Blessing. And she says yes. So we borrow her phone and call our WML, he doesn’t answer. Call our bishop, he doesn’t answer. Call the elders and have them start calling around because another train doesn’t come for 30 min, plus a 20 min train ride…finally our WML answers, and he is on his way home from Århus and just stops by and gives her one of the most wonderful Blessings in the World!! (By the way, everything is ok. We talked to Min yesterday and her mom is still in critical condition, but stable. And he said that Ana Marie has just been ”different” since the Blessing. More calm :) love the power of the priesthood!!) So we get back into Esbjerg (oh and while we were on the phone with the elders they volunteered to make dinner for us….I think they could tell we were a bit stressed…ha). So we get back into town and go over to their Apartment, where we run into Kelvin and talk to him for a few mintues, and then into another investigators husband, who is actually rather creepy. But then the elders showed up and the creepy guy left. That was nice. So we had dinner, (we sit outside their Apartment door….and I’m pretty sure we confuse their neighbors all the time….ha, it’s funny) and we were going to leave and we run into this member of our Ward. And all the while during dinner and such I was explaining bipolar disorder – this member has it and the elders were trying to understand what was going on with her. Anyways, we’re maybe 15 ft from the elders Apartment, and we see her, and she is in the middle of a full on psychotic break. So, that was, interesting. She was doing ok, but definitely needed help, now. So søster vige just continues to talk to her and I just run back to the elders and start banging on their door, they come out and we get her into fakta and get the elders to call her younger sister to get ahold of her mom to come and get her so she can get some help. Lets just say, it is not easy to keep a person who is having a psychotic break calm, especially when you don’t have a super good relationship with them, along with 3 others who have never seen one before….ha. Oh man. So her mom and step dad come and pick her up and take her to the hospital. well, by this point it’s about 9:45, and reallllllly Cold, so the elders offer to get us some hoodies or jackets to walk home in. so we go back to their Apartment, and they have locked themselves out. HA! It was a night!! I guess the thing I learned most from that one is that the Work does not stop just because it’s 9:00pm. Do I condone being about past curfew? No. But, the Work doesn’t stop just because it’s late. Sometimes the Lord needs you other Places!

Oh yeah. And we met with this lady named Gitte the other day – we are studying preach my gospel with her. And oh heavens! We are answer to her prayers! She has had a hard time lately and has just been really in the dumps. So, she heard this talk that said get to know your missionaries. So one sunday she came up to me (and I actually didn’t know who she was at the time cause I’d just gotten here) and she asked for all the missionaries names in Esbjerg! She figured the best way to get to know the missionaries was to pray for them, so that she did! And just a few weeks later, we call and ask to study PMG with her. And now she is reading the scriptures Again! And she has people to talk to about the gospel! And she is just soooo much happier! It’s SOOOO great!

And Kristina. That girl. Oh my heavens! She came to church on sunday and told us that she has decided to get baptized and that she is going to get baptized on her birthday 1. Juli, if not before that!! YESSSS!!!!!!!!! And she called us today and is just having a hard day and not really feeling well, so she decided that she is just going to put on some church music and read the Book of Mormon. Not even kidding! And just to preface all of this, we have not actually taught a single lesson. Not one. We were supposed to last week, and then Freja got really sick and things just kinda went haywire. In gæsteklasse we talked about baptism – perfect right? Well, we talked about the coventants we make when we are baptized, and one of them is that we will follow the commandments, one of them being the Word of Wisdom. Well, she already has decided not to drink anymore, but we hadn’t ever gotten to the tea part. Well, that of course got brought up in sunday school, and so she turned to me and I just said we’ll talk about it more tonight. And she goes, I think that would be a goooood idea :) So we are over there, and we basically just say the Word of wisdom says don’t drink alcohol, tea, or coffe and don’t smoke or do drugs. well, 4 of the 5 she’s good with. so then we start going through her tea cabnit and start showing her the ones that aren’t good for her. and setting them aside. and she was really sad! there were some that she had never tasted before but that sounded really yummy! well, Stuart (a guy she met in Sverige two weeks ago) said, you’re not baptized yet, you can still do whatever you want, in fact, even when you’re baptized you can still do whatever you want. It’s always your choice. And about 5 minutes later she comes to us (we were playing doctor with Freja :D) and says, I made the tea, I smelled the tea, but I just don’t want to drink it anymore now that I know I’m not supposed to. I guess I have some good gifts for my Family! YESSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was sooooo great!!! SO, we have a lesson set for thursday, where we will teach the first lesson. We have not taught this girl anything, we have not invited her to baptism, but she has invited herself. She has come to this all on her own! We met her for the very first time 7 weeks ago yesterday. And here she is, with a baptismal date, reading the Book of Mormon, sights set on the tempel and following every single commandment as soon as she learns about it. I don’t now how in the World I got the opportunity to teach someone so wonderful, but I am sure grateful!! I just love her soooo much!!! And I am SO grateful for her!!

Life is wonderful :) I’m learning so much and I am sooo thankful! I think something else that I learned this week is that Heavenly Father expects us to take care of one another – He is the light at the top, but we are truly the lights all around to help and assist one another. It all comes back to the song let the lower lights be burning. He is the higher light, but He has given us charge over the lower lights, and we must keep burning in order to help all of those around us. Ah. I am so grateful for those lower lights that have been around me in my life. Now it’s my turn to be one.

Have a wonderful week!!!!!

Mange kærlighed,

Søster Rigby
